Work consisted of replacing three elevators at the Bachelor Enlisted Quarters Building 1634 Utah Hall, an existing 12-story building located at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam, Hawaii. Existing Westinghouse elevators was replaced with new ThyssenKrupp elevators. Hoistway, machine room and pit met current codes, Architectural Barriers act (ABA) and Navy requirements.
One elevator was sized for an ambulance stretcher per the IBC and 2013-01 NAVFAC Elevator Design Guide. The second and third elevator was downsized to fit all three elevators within the existing elevator shaft.
The impact of relocating elevator door openings was evaluated and structural modifications were designed to fit all three elevators within the existing elevator shaft.
